Substitution and Elimination Reactions
- 1 Reorient
- 2 Add Arrows
- 3 Draw the Major Product
Place each group on the same carbon, preserving its configuration. Place the β-H and leaving group too. Their bonds must be antiperiplanar (180° apart).
Draw the Main Product
Select a lone pair or bond, then click or drag to its destination.
Use ordinary single and double bonds to draw the alkene. Arrange substituents to show the correct E/Z geometry where applicable. Draw only the major alkene. The protonated base and halide ion appear automatically once it is correct.
Drawing help and shortcuts
Click two points or drag to add bonds. Atom tools replace an existing atom or add one in empty space. Carbon hydrogens are implicit; use H to draw one explicitly if helpful. Use the circled + or − tools to add or remove charges. Click or drag with Eraser to erase. Escape cancels a bond. Ctrl/⌘ Z undoes; Ctrl/⌘ Shift Z redoes. With Move, drag an atom or Shift-drag a whole connected structure. Rotating or reflecting a complete alkene drawing preserves its E/Z geometry. Use ordinary bonds around the alkene carbons.
